The Special Reaction Team is a unit made up of a group of specialty trained officers whose purpose is to handle instances when weaponry or other special skills are required to cope with: the capture, incapacitation, or elimination of a sniper; protection of V.I.Ps; barricaded and/or armed fugitives; suppressing hostage situations and rescuing hostages; search and arrest warrants where armed resistance is likely; narcotic raids; armed robberies; and any other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or his designee.

The Nashua Police is one of the first departments in the state of New Hampshire to incorporate a medic program into the tactical unit. Two EMT trained officers have attended the United States Department of Defense Tactical Medic Course (CONTOMS). These tactically trained medics will not only provide immediate medical aid to an injured officer or civilian, but also assist an incident commander with medical needs of the operation, both before, during, and after the incident.
