What do your everyday duties consist of?
An officer's duties consists of: Community Policing, Interviews and Investigations, Traffic Enforcement, Report Writing, Crime Scene Investigations, Emergency Medical and Fire Rescue Assistance, Responding to Citizen's Complaints and Calls For Service.

What are the Nashua Police Department's physical fitness requirements?<
The physical fitness requirements are comprised of four tests: Sit-ups, Push-ups, Bench Press, and 1½ Mile Run. Tests requirements are based on age and gender. All Nashua Police Department candidates must pass all of these tests. An officer is also required to perform an in-service physical fitness test annually.

What can I do to prepare for the physical fitness test?
Develop and maintain a regular exercise program that incorporates cardiovascular activity and weight training.

What does the Nashua Police Department's employment selection process consist of?
In order to become a Nashua Police officer you must be a U.S. citizen residing in the Continental U.S. You must be at least 21 years old to apply and be a high school graduate or equivalent. You must pass a Written Exam, a Physical Fitness Test, an Oral Interview, a Polygraph Examination, a Psychological Evaluation, a Complete Background Investigation, a Medical Examination (NPD doctor/NPD expense) and a Final Interview.

What is the work schedule of a Nashua police officer?
A patrol officer's work schedule consists of four (4) days on two (2) days off. The work schedule is determined by a shift bidding system, which is based on an officer's seniority. Outside details and overtime (at the rate of time and one-half per hour) are available. Officers receive twelve (12) paid holidays per year. Other types of leave available include: Vacation (contingent upon # of year's of service), Personal Days (available after 1 year of service), Family, Medical Leave, Emergency Leave, Bereavement Leave, and Sick Leave (1 ¼ days per month, cumulative to 120 day).

What is the work environment like for a female officer?
Being in a male-dominated profession has its rewards and challenges. Nonetheless, a strong sense on camaraderie exists between both male and female Nashua Police officers.

Are there different divisions or bureaus within the Nashua Police Department?
There are several different bureaus within the Nashua Police Department: Detective Bureau (Criminal Investigations Division, Narcotics Division, Evidence Division, Youth Services Division), Services Bureau (Community Services, Police Athletic League, Crime Prevention, Senior Relations), Uniform Patrol Bureau (Traffic Unit, Problem Oriented Policing Unit, Mountain Bike Unit, K-9 Unit), Legal Bureau (Domestic Violence), Administrative Bureau and Professional Standards. There are also several specialty areas and units available to officers (i.e. Photographer, Latent Fingerprint Expert, Breath Test Administrator, Special Reactions Team, Crisis Negotiation, Diving Team, Accident Reconstruction, Sketch Artist, Crime Scene Technician).

Are there different assignments available for officers?
Patrol officers can be laterally transferred or assigned to any bureau within the Nashua Police Department. However, transfers and assignments may be contingent upon years of service and successfully passing a proficiency exam.

What are the benefits and/or incentives of a career with the Nashua Police Department?
Upon employment, officers are issued complete uniforms and equipment. They will receive an annual clothing allowance after one (1) year of service. The Educational Incentives available to officers is an annual bonus for Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. Tuition reimbursement is also available for officers after one (1) year of service.
